Multiplet mailboxes

As previously mentioned it isn't uncommon to see clusters of mailboxes along the highways in the US. Interestingly, the phenomenon is also encountered in cities. For example (in the left side of the collage), both the "twin" mailboxes and the fairly Little-Claus-and-Big-Claus like mailboxes are from Santa Barbara. In the right side of the collage you see larger clusters of mailboxes: the most mixed set is typical of the Isla Vista neighbourhood right next to UCSB while the string of identical mailboxes was found, curiously, in Hilo, Hawai'i.

Party cups

Nothing signals PARTY more symbolically (as well as practically) in IV than the ever present red party cups.
If they are still neatly stacked on the table, the party is soon coming up, and if they are spread all over the lawn as on the photo above, it is a clear signal of a recently finished party. The party cups are of course perfect for one of the more popular party sports: Beer Pong and is of course very suited for a little ‘keg party’. The latter can though become a very serious matter if the police appear and assert that minors have been tapping from the keg…

Biko

Didn't we promise you guys some more posts on Isla Vista ? The college town that stretches from West Campus to Campus itself .. We think we did. Isla Vista has a curious blend of more or less normal houses and apartment complexes in varying sizes. A large part of the inhabitants are being substituted as their educations progress while certain others seem more permanent - and some houses have stayed virtually unmodified throughout all the years Tue has been living around here. One of those standing seemingly untouched by time is the Biko house which - lo and behold - has an appropriate mailbox.

Is that the famous beer tree?

When we're out biking, going through IV almost never disappoints. Usually there's a really good chance of seeing something peculiar.

Del Playa Drive didn't fail us on this Sunday, since we found this lovely creation in a front yard.

For those of our readers unfamiliar with this area we'll just say that IV - as you might gather from the picture - is a neighbourhood heavily influenced by the large number of college students living there. Furthermore, Del Playa Drive is the most prestigious street to live on in this part of town, not least due to its location right by the beach (hence the street name...).
